On Saturday, October 28, 2023, Women of H.O.P.E. Intl. will present the Hair Peace 5K Run/Walk at Miramar Regional Park in Miramar, FL. The Hair Peace and Hope 5K is an annual event that started to help and support those suffering from autoimmune and Mixed Connective Tissue diseases, resulting in devastating hair loss. Now in its 8th year, we have managed to go beyond providing wig prostheses to applicants. Recognizing that the debilitating effects of the disease extend beyond hair loss, we have been able to get support and resources to these individuals in many other ways.

About Women of H.O.P.E.
Women of H.O.P.E. (Health Occupations Promoting Education) will host its fourth annual HAIR PEACE & HOPE 5K RUN/WALK at the Miramar Regional Park on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 7 am. The main goal of this run/walk is to help bring awareness and support to those who live with autoimmune diseases, some of that result in devastating hair loss.

This life-changing event aims to unite people to celebrate the lives of those currently battling an autoimmune disease, remember loved ones lost, and help raise funds for hair prostheses (wigs) for women and men with hair loss due to autoimmune disease and other areas of need.
We invite walkers, runners, joggers, and rollers (baby strollers and wheelchairs) of all ages to come out and participate. Even if you can’t join the race, support a great cause and have a good time doing so!

What is an autoimmune disease?
An autoimmune disease is when your immune system mistakenly attacks your body.
The immune system usually guards against germs like bacteria and viruses. However, in an autoimmune disease, the immune system mistakes parts of your body, like your joints or skin, as foreign. It then releases proteins called autoantibodies that attack those healthy cells.
Some autoimmune diseases target only one organ. Its often misdiagnosed or discovered late in the disease. Over 50 Million people in the U.S.A. live with an autoimmune disease.
